I'm amazed at how this thing even walks over the AER 14 in terms of effectiveness. The 2 beams essentially function as one, it being split effectively doubles your crit chance (with each beam doing full crit damage), and stacking the energy damage perks with crit perks and Laser Commander turns it into something that can fry just about everything in the game easily. Add in the Cell types and it gets completely bonkers.Any other cases where specific builds turn usually lower tier weapons into total monsters?. I turned the varmit rifle into a killing machine with the silencer night scope and extended mag mods.
Fallout Nv Laser Pistol
Did all of my perks for stealth/silencers/rifles. Literally plinked my way through the game as cheaply as possible one stealth headshot auto crit at a time. This build made a few encounters where stealth isn’t possible a little challenging but overall 99% of the game incredibly stupid easy. Did a similar build with handgun/stealth/Mr sandman perks in fallout 4 with the Lucky Pistol (doubles critical hit damage). Got a stupid little 10mm pistol doing so much damage from stealth crit hits that I was one shotted anything I shot in the head from stealth even nasty stuff like deathclaws fell with one little pistol bullet. Pure DPS doesn't factor in crits.
Split stock laser rifle is unique in that both beams have seperate crit chances that arent divided. If your present crit chance was say, 30% and you slapped on the beam splitter, both beams would have 30% chance to crit and the crit hits for full damage. Both beams critting at once is absolutely devestating.Combine it with the 2 energy damage challenge perks, Laser Commander, Finesse, Light Touch, and crazy high luck and you're critting nearly every shot.
Even crazier with Better Criticals.Not to mention Elijah's LAER is insanely high maintenance due to its crazy low durability. I gotta ask, does that chart factor in the weapons with all mods added?
Fallout 3 Laser Rifle
Because Beam Splitter pretty much doubles your crit chance in practice (each beam also does full crit damage each) and Elijah's LAER has really dogshit crit damage compared to its weapon damage.Not to mention even if Elijah's is higher compared to fully modded laser rifle, the problem is the gun itself falls apart extremely fast and requires you to practically shove Laser Rifles down its throat like soul gems to enchanted weapons in Oblivion just to keep it usable.Beam Split Focus Laser Rifle is A: Much easier to get and B: a lot more durable than the LAERs. Especially when you factor in Optomized and Max Charge cells.
