Ck2 Save Game Location
Tryingto edit my save game file but swhen I open it with notepad its all gibberish, can anyone help? Hi, does anyone know how to manipulate a saved game and change how it says a character died? The regular CK2 guides didn't help very much. Open your uncompressed savegame file with some sort of editor (I recommand Notepad). Any bugs (such as the well documented 'endless war' bugs) can ruin an Ironman game as well. Save file location. There are two options for save locations for Ironman. Local Ironman saves are always uncompressed and are stored in: Documents Paradox Interactive Europa Universalis 4. This page is intended to assist with editing the CKII Save File. If you want to edit a CKII save file, ensure you have saved without compressing the save game file. To achieve this, unclick the checkbox to the right of the save game filename entry box. Now you should be able to open and read the file in any text editor.

If you use steam it'll be something like C:Program Files (x86)Steamsteamappscommoncrusader kings ii.Also you may point to any directory you like, even in another server just inform the proper path (eg. I'm saving my files this way on a samba share.Note that all user files and folders will be placed there: gfx/, logs/, save games/, settings.txt. So, if you already have the user's dir, move the Crusader Kings II (user) folder to the new location to prevent the creation of a new directory structure. Otherwise the first load after this change will take longer.I haven't tested yet playing from another installation but using the same user directory, sometimes I play from other computer. Maybe it won't work.
But creating a symlink haven't work neither.I suspect this sollution won't do in case other people play this game on the same computer, since there will be only user for this CK2 installation. This method hasn't worked for me. I use the steam version and have turned off the auto-updater just to be on safe side, but I put the directory name I want to use on the first line.
Is there any additional formatting required besides the path? Will spaces in the path name break the redirect? I put the userdir.txt in:G:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonCrusader Kings IIThe first line in it is:G:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonCrusader Kings IICrusader Kings IIWhich is the directory that had all the content from the original 'My Documents' folder on C:It does not recognize either the mods or the saved games stored in that directory now. Different location for save files and screenshotsBy default, the game puts the save files and screenshots into your documents folder (see Windows Mode paragraph above). If you would prefer them to be kept in a different location, you can change this.

Here, manually create a plain text file named userdir.txt. In this text file, put the path of where you would like the game to put save files and screenshots, e.g. (You can delete the folder in My Documents and restart the game, it will create its files in the new location.)IMPORTANT: Before you do this, backup your save games, screenshots, etc, so that nothing is lost!
